Its a brilliant story but I cant understand why so many people think its real. Even if there was a kernel of truth in the original Welsh hints, a 6th century war lord, he would not have been gallumping around in shiny medieval armour etc. I would much prefer a 6th century war lord to a medieval one as well.

Yeah I agree it shouldn’t be a surprise that DNA showed that the core genetics of Greece hasn’t changed much since the earliest times. Also, the generic similarity between Dorians and Mycenaeans was high. I think there is a human default position to think that conquest of an area means replacement of its people. In fact that is rare and never so finite - more often it is a “take over.”

For me, the only real candidate for Arthur is Riothamus in the late 5th century. Bare in mind that the source of the legend is from the Welsh monk by the name of Geoffrey of Monmouth and he wrote the account over 500 years later, and the Welsh called all Germanic and Norse people as Saxons, then so much of the story fits. Riothamus is not a name. but a title meaning 'great king' as in an overlord. No one actually know the real name of Riothamus, so it could very well be Arthur. Riothamus was called "King of the Britons" by Jordanes in the 6th century. His kingdom was in the British Isles and also had lands stretching across to Brittany in France. Riothamus must have been a successful warrior king against the Saxons, as the Romans called upon his to fight for them against the Goths. Jordanes writes "King Riotimus came with twelve thousand men into the state of the Bituriges by the way of Ocean, and was received as he disembarked from his ships.
